The new centralised self-exclusion platform for online gambling from Serviço de Regulação e Inspecção de Jogos (SRIJ) went live.
The new portal replaces a number of disparate systems with a centralised and user-friendly interface enhanced for mobile devices. The regulator believes that the new design makes submitting requests easy and straightforward, especially considering how many are now using their smartphones and tablets to gamble.
The new system allows individuals and/or third parties to submit self-exclusion requests that will be enforced against all licensed online gambling operators in Portugal, creating a unified approach intended to stop users from bypassing their restrictions by switching between platforms.
SRIJ hopes the newly enhanced mobile-friendly and simplified process will encourage more vulnerable players to use self-exclusions as an option.
This comes as Portugal’s digital gaming sector continues to grow at an alarming rate; the gross online gaming revenues totalled €297.1 million for Q3 2025, which is the second largest quarterly amount ever recorded by SRIJ. By way of contrast, revenue from land-based casinos fell 4.6% from the previous year.
Portugal is one of an increasing number of countries implementing centralised self-exclusion systems to improve protections to gamblers.
