Punjab Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 54 runs in Match 29 of the IPL 2026 season. On Sunday, April 19, 2026, PBKS batters Priyansh Arya and Cooper Coonolly made history with a partnership of 182 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
The batting duo helped the team reach a total of 254 runs for 7 wickets in their first inning. This was the highest team total made this season. However, LSG could only manage to make 200 runs for 5 wickets in their second innings.
Record-Breaking Partnership at Mullanpur
Arya and Connolly made 182 runs off 80 balls in just 13.2 overs. This partnership is now one of the most dominant performances in IPL history. They maintained a strike rate of 13.65 runs per over. This is the second-highest run rate for any 100-plus partnership in the history of IPL.
It’s only second to the legendary partnership between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers of 229 runs, which occurred in 2016 at a rate of 14.31 runs per over.

IPL shared a post on X stating that this is the third-highest partnership in Punjab Kings’ history, with a run rate of 13.65. It sits just behind the 206-run stand by Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh in 2011, and the 183-run stand by KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal in 2020. Meanwhile, it set a new record for the highest partnership ever recorded at the Mullanpur venue, beating the previous best of 120 runs.
Priyansh Arya’s Explosive 93-Run Innings
Priyansh Arya opened for PBKS and made 93 runs off just 37 balls. The 24-year-old left-handed opener hit four boundaries and nine sixes. He reached his half-century in just 19 balls, which was his second fifty of the current season. Arya finished with a massive strike rate of 251.35.
Punjab lost opener Prabhsimran Singh for a golden duck in the first over. Instead of defending his wicket, Arya immediately attacked the bowlers. He took 40 runs from his first 13 balls, helping PBKS reach 63 for 1 by the end of the powerplay. He was eventually bowled out by Manimaran Siddharth in the 14th over.
Cooper Connolly’s 87-Run Knock
Australian young batter Cooper Connolly played a supporting role by making 87 runs from 46 deliveries, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. He made 19 runs off 22 balls early on, but increased his strike rate then after. He reached his own fifty in 35 balls with a straight six that hit the sight screen.
Connolly was lucky early in his innings. In the second over, LSG captain Rishabh Pant decided not to review an LBW appeal against him. Replays later showed the ball would have hit the stumps. Connolly, who had only made 4 runs at the time, went on to make 87 runs. He was eventually bowled out by Prince Yadav in the 14th over.
Lucknow Super Giants’ Run Chase
Lucknow Super Giants chased a target of 255 runs. Ayush Badoni with Mitchell Marsh opened for the team. Badoni scored 35 off 21 balls, and Marsh added 40 off 28 balls. Captain Rishabh Pant also contributed a quick 43 off 23 balls.
However, the LSG batters could not maintain the required run rate of over 12 runs per over. Punjab’s Marco Jansen took 2 wickets for 37 runs, and Yuzvendra Chahal took the wicket of Marsh.
IPL 2026 Points Table Standings
Punjab Kings remain at the top of the IPL points table after this win against LSH. They have won five matches out of six. One match ended in a no-result due to rain. They now stand at the top with 11 points and a Net Run Rate of 1.42.
All the while, Lucknow Super Giants stand at eighth position. They have only four points from six matches after losing three games in a row. The 54-run loss also hurt their Net Run Rate, which now stands at -1.17.
