The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-member women’s squad on Sunday for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka. This three-match One Day International (ODI) series is set to begin on April 20, 2026, at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium.
The squad includes two notable selection calls: Sarmin Sultana returns after a seven-year absence from the national setup, while Juairiya Ferdous earns her first ODI call-up as a wicketkeeper-batter. Rubya Haider and Nishita Akter were left out of the selection.
Bangladesh Women’s 15-Member Squad Details
Captain Nigar Sultana Joty leads the 15-player squad. Nahida Akter will serve as the vice-captain. The selectors also included off-spinner Sultana Khatun to strengthen the bowling attack. She last played an ODI in January 2025 and knows how to use home conditions effectively.
Meanwhile, three players from the previous World Cup squad lost their spots. Rubya Haider, Nishita Akter, and Sumaiya Akter are not part of this series. The selectors made these changes to find a better balance of skill and reliability.
Key Returns and New Faces in the Bangladesh Women’s Team
The most surprising news is the return of 32-year-old batter Sarmin Sultana. She last played an ODI for Bangladesh in November 2019 against Pakistan. This recall ends a seven-year gap in her international 50-over career.
Moreover, her recent form in domestic cricket caught the eyes of the selectors. She performed well in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 tournament. She also scored 76 runs in four innings during the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup.
The BCB also gave a maiden ODI call-up to 20-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Juairiya Ferdous. Although she has never played an ODI, she has experience in the T20 format. She previously played seven T20 Internationals for Bangladesh.
During those T20 matches, she scored 123 runs and even hit a half-century. She most recently played in the T20 World Cup Qualifier in Nepal. While Nigar Sultana Joty remains the main wicketkeeper, Ferdous provides a strong option for the middle order.
