New South Wales Police have arrested a Kazakhstan couple over a sophisticated cheating operation at Crown Resorts’ flagship Sydney casino.
The pair allegedly used wireless gear to gain an illegal advantage and fleece Crown Sydney out of AU$1,179,412 ($771,800). According to reports, members of the Barangaroo casino’s surveillance team picked up shady betting patterns involving the pair on table games going back several weeks in October and November.
An X user shared a clip of the news story, including a detail about the woman, 36, who allegedly concealed a spycam under a Disney logo on her shirt:
It was the spycam staff noticed on November 25, leading to the arrest of the woman and husband, 44, at Crown Sydney after alerting officers attached to State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad Casino and Racing Unit.
Police allege the pair used advanced electronic aids, specifically tricked-out mobile phones and hidden earpieces to facilitate the scam. The electronic aids allegedly filmed the tables while the pair communicated via earpieces allowing whoever was on the table to make strategically informed bets.
