Hampshire captain Georgia Adams has signed a new two-year contract that will keep her at the Utilita Bowl until 2028, and she marked the extension with a match-winning performance against Surrey at Guildford. The 32-year-old scored 115 off 103 balls and took three wickets as Hampshire chased down Surrey’s total of 228 to win by four wickets in the Women’s One-Day Cup.
Adams has led Hampshire women since 2020 and has won six trophies with the Southern Vipers since joining the franchise in 2016. She has also lifted The Hundred with Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave, and Trent Rockets, along with Australia’s WBBL title with Adelaide Strikers in 2023.
New Contract Extends Adams’ Hampshire Stay to 2028
Adams described Hampshire as practically her home and said she wanted to continue developing players for both club and country. The club currently sits in a strong position in the Women’s One-Day Cup table, and Adams said she hopes to help Hampshire reach another 50-over final on their home ground in September.
Her new deal ties her future to the club through the next two seasons, and gives Hampshire continuity in both white-ball and red-ball cricket heading into 2028.
Adams Guides Hampshire to Four-Wicket Win Over Surrey
Adams returned from Hundred duty, where she was named player of the match as Trent Rockets won the final, and immediately made an impact with the ball. She took 3 for 40 with her off-breaks before starring with the bat, as she struck 115 to steer Hampshire past their target with 51 balls remaining.
She and Ella McCaughan added a brisk opening stand, and took full toll of the new ball to reach 50 runs off just 46 deliveries. Adams brought up her century with a boundary down to third man and continued to punish Surrey’s bowlers until she fell to Sune Luus at 206 for 5. Nancy Harman remained unbeaten on 37 as Hampshire completed the chase.
Wellington’s Spin Effort Seals Surrey Collapse
Surrey were sent in to bat first after Hampshire won the toss, and openers Rachel King and Alice Monaghan started strongly against the seam bowlers. Spin struggled early too, with Monaghan clearing the ropes off a full toss and Adams also getting hit for six. Adams then turned the match with a caught-and-bowled to remove King five runs short of fifty, and Monaghan fell in the next over.
Amanda-Jade Wellington then ran through the middle order, and finished with figures of 4 for 37 as Surrey lost wickets in clusters. Alice Davidson-Richards fought back with 61, as she mixed aggressive strokeplay with careful defence before falling lbw to Poppy Tulloch, and Surrey were bowled out for 228 in 44.2 overs.
The result gives Hampshire four points and keeps them well placed in the Women’s One-Day Cup standings as they look toward the knockout stages. Adams’ all-round display, which comes just two days after her Hundred final win, underlined why the club moved quickly to secure her long-term future at the Utilita Bowl. Hampshire will next face Surrey again on Wednesday at Guildford, with a 10:30 BST start, as they continue their push toward a home final in September.
