India vs New Zealand 4th T20I Result 2026: Seifert Stars as NZ Defeat India by 50 Runs

New Zealand beat India by 50 runs in the fourth T20I at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, January 28, 2026. New Zealand posted 215 for 7 in 20 overs before bowling out India for 165 in 18.4 overs. Tim Seifert scored 62 off 36 balls to win the Player of the Match award, while Shivam Dube’s explosive 65 off 23 balls could not prevent India’s first defeat of the series.

India leads the five-match series 3-1 after winning the opening three games. The final match takes place on Friday, January 31, in Thiruvananthapuram. New Zealand registered their biggest T20I victory over India on Indian soil by runs, surpassing their previous best of 47 runs in Nagpur during the 2016 T20 World Cup.

India won the toss and chose to bowl first. The decision backfired as New Zealand openers Tim Seifert and Devon Conway put on 100 runs in just 8.2 overs. Seifert reached his 13th T20I fifty off 25 balls while Conway smashed 44 off 23 deliveries before India fought back in the middle overs.

Seifert and Conway Destroy Indian Bowling

New Zealand’s opening pair went after bowling from the first over. Seifert took control early and scored 46 runs off his first 21 balls during the power play. Devon Conway started slowly with 8 runs off his first 9 balls against the pacers, but exploded once the spinners came on.

The pair put on 71 runs in the first six overs without losing a wicket. This became the highest powerplay score New Zealand ever made against India in T20 internationals. Ravi Bishnoi bore the brunt in the final over when Conway hit him for two fours and a six.

Seifert hit seven fours and three sixes during his 36-ball knock. Conway struck four fours and three sixes in his 23-ball stay before Kuldeep Yadav got him caught by Rinku Singh. The opening stand of 100 runs came off just 50 balls and gave New Zealand the perfect platform to post a big total.

India Fights Back Before Late Onslaught

India pulled itself together after the opening partnership broke. New Zealand lost six wickets for 63 runs as the Indian bowlers struck regularly. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed both openers Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips to finish with 2 for 39. Arshdeep Singh picked up Tim Seifert and Zakary Foulkes to end with 2 for 33.

Jasprit Bumrah got Rachin Ravindra caught and bowled for 2 runs. Ravi Bishnoi clean bowled Mark Chapman for 9. New Zealand slipped to 168 for 6 after 17 overs and looked like finishing under 200. Mitchell Santner got run out by Hardik Pandya for 11 runs trying to steal a quick single.

Daryl Mitchell changed the game in the death overs. The right-hander remained unbeaten on 39 off just 18 balls with two fours and three sixes. He targeted Jasprit Bumrah in the 19th over and smashed 19 runs, including two sixes. Harshit Rana went for 54 runs in his four overs with an economy rate of 13.50. New Zealand scored 47 runs in the last three overs to reach 215 for 7.

India Loses Early Wickets

India’s chase got off to the worst possible start when Matt Henry got Abhishek Sharma out for a golden duck off the first ball. Sharma edged an outswinger to Devon Conway behind the stumps. Captain Suryakumar Yadav made only 8 runs off 8 balls before Jacob Duffy caught and bowled him.

Sanju Samson hit 24 off 15 balls with three fours before Mitchell Santner bowled him through the gate. Hardik Pandya lasted just five balls for 2 runs before Santner got him caught by Zakary Foulkes. India slumped to 82 for 5 in the 11th over, and the match looked over.

Ishan Kishan could not bat due to a niggle picked up during the warm-up. India effectively batted with nine players, which put extra pressure on the remaining batters. Rinku Singh held one end up with 39 runs off 30 balls, but kept losing partners at the other end.

Dube Nearly Pulls Off Miracle

Shivam Dube walked in at 82 for 5 and played one of the best T20I innings by an Indian batter. He smashed 65 runs off just 23 balls with three fours and seven sixes. His fifty came in 15 balls, making it the third fastest half-century by an Indian in T20 internationals behind Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty and Abhishek Sharma’s 14-ball effort.

Dube went berserk in the 17th over, bowled by Ish Sodhi. He hit the leg spinner for 29 runs with the sequence going 2, 4, 6, 4, 6, 6. The over brought India back into the contest as they needed 71 runs off 30 balls after Dube’s dismissal. Earlier in his innings, Dube survived an LBW review when he got an inside edge onto his boot.

Matt Henry ran Dube out in the 18th over with a deflection at the non-striker’s end. Dube had backed up too far, and Henry got fingertips to the ball while attempting to stop it in his follow-through. The ball hit the stumps with Dube out of his crease. His departure at 145 for 6 ended India’s hopes of pulling off an unlikely chase, similar to India’s earlier dominance in the series.

Tail Collapses Quickly

The lower order could not provide support once Dube got out. Harshit Rana made 9 off 13 balls before Ish Sodhi had him caught by Rachin Ravindra. Arshdeep Singh lasted just two balls and scored 0 before Sodhi got him caught by Santner. The same over saw two wickets fall.

Jasprit Bumrah hit a four off his first ball and finished with 4 runs off 2 balls before Mitchell Santner bowled him. Kuldeep Yadav made 1 run off 3 balls before Jacob Duffy dismissed him with a bouncer that he gloved to Tim Seifert. India got bowled out for 165 in 18.4 overs, losing by 50 runs.

Mitchell Santner finished with 3 for 26 in four overs, taking the wickets of Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. Ish Sodhi claimed 2 for 46 while Jacob Duffy picked up 2 for 33. Rinku Singh took four catches in the field, dismissing Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, Zakary Foulkes and Kuldeep Yadav.

Series Heads to Final Match

India already sealed the series by winning the first three matches before this game. The defeat reduces their lead to 3-1 with one match remaining. Both teams use the series as preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.

New Zealand showed they can compete despite losing the series. Tim Seifert’s aggressive batting at the top of the order gives them a strong platform. Mitchell Santner’s captaincy and bowling proved effective in restricting India after Dube’s assault. The Kiwis will look to end the tour on a high note in Thiruvananthapuram.

India will want to address their death bowling concerns. Jasprit Bumrah conceded 38 runs in four overs, while Harshit Rana went for 54 runs. The powerplay bowling also needs improvement after New Zealand scored 71 without loss. However, Shivam Dube’s explosive form gives India another middle-order option going into the World Cup.
