Jordan Cox to Link up With Dubai Capitals For Lucrative ILT20 Contract

The newly crowned PCA men’s player of the year, Jordan Cox, is all set to leave the England Lions’ tour to Australia following the lucrative contract with Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. During the selection of England’s 16-man Ashes squad for the 2025 series, Cox was left out and opted for Ollie Pope as a backup for Jamie Smith.

However, Cox will still be seen in England Lions’ warm-up game, but there is a lower chance he will be playing matches against Australia.

Jordon Cox Ditches Country Over Cash

England’s prominent batter, Jordan Cox, made a decision that has left every cricket fan in shock as he is set to leave the England Lions’ Ashes warm-up tour early following the lucrative deal with Dubai Capitals for ILT20, reportedly for US$250,000. The decision was shocking for most of the fans since at just 23 years of age, he was named the PCA Men’s Player of the Year, but his mind made up to play one or two matches for the Lions before flying to Dubai in early December is legit and confirmed.

Jordan Cox lost a place in the Ashes squad of 16 England players because selectors favoured Ollie Pope as the reserve wicketkeeper to Jamie Smith. He explained that he has only gone to the Lions as a preliminary to getting the Test team ready, and he confessed that when they do not need me, they will send me off to Dubai.

The move is indicative of a changing trend among the cricketing younger generation, and Dubai Capitals’ ability to attract young English talent like Jordan Cox highlights how franchise leagues are reshaping modern cricket.

Players such as Cox are now struggling to make tough decisions between the development of their career and financial rewards, with leagues such as the ILT20 promising huge paydays. He is among the highest-paid players in the league since the Dubai Capitals signed him as a replacement player before the auction as well.

Similarly, Jordan Cox laid down his thoughts regarding his interest in playing Test cricket, along with the few franchise leagues. He said, “There is some England stuff I’d love to be a part of, but if not, there are a few franchise competitions and I’ll have some fun. My aim is to play Test cricket, but I wouldn’t wish an injury on anyone. If I get a chance, it would be awesome.

It will be nice to show Stokes, Baz, and Keysy [Rob Key]. They haven’t watched me live much in red-ball [cricket]. They have come to Hundred or T20 games, but I don’t imagine they are coming to much four-day cricket.”

On the other hand, England pace bowler Brydon Carse, who suffered a toe infection last winter, has reportedly recovered and also shared positive updates on the availability of the skipper Ben Stokes and Mark Wood for the much-anticipated Ashes series. Their presence is vital for the team since they carry respective responsibilities in the matches, especially when the team needs them the most.

Writer’s Take

From the writer’s point of view, Jordan Cox’s decision to ditch national cricket duty for the lucrative deal with Dubai Capitals for ILT20 does not seem practical or logical, as he could have been included in England’s main squad for the Ashes series against Australia. This has been a major growing concern among most players, especially young batters who crave exposure as they start their careers.

Despite the decision, Cox will be seen in one or two warm-up matches for England Lions, where he could show his potential to skipper Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum. I hope player like Jordan Cox consider their decision not to play the national matches for franchise competition in the future.
