The IPL 2026 Purple Cap race narrowed down on Wednesday night in Lucknow. The bowlers took the centre stage after a low-scoring affair between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Prince Yadav of LSG took two vital wickets to tie with Chennai Super Kings Anshul Kamboj at the top of the wicket-takers list.
The game itself was won by RR by a comfortable margin, 159 to 119. The 16 wickets that were taken throughout the game made it evident that the ground was in the bowlers’ favor, and the Purple Cap standings were dramatically reshuffled.
Prince Yadav and Kamboj Level on 13 Wickets
Prince Yadav and Anshul Kamboj have 13 wickets each at this point of the IPL 2026 season, but the tie-breaker gives Prince a slight edge. His economy rate is 8.38 to Kamboj 9.73, which puts him at the top of the table, although it must be noted that Prince has bowled one more innings than Kamboj.
Kamboj has also been equally impressive in his six matches with CSK. His highest scores this season are 3/22, and he has been consistent. Prince, who has played his seventh game of the season, has recorded his best figures of 3/32 and has been one of the breakout stories of IPL 2026.
Archer, Malinga, and Prasidh Krishna in ContentionÂ
The Purple Cap race is still open right below the top two. Eshan Malinga of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans have 12 wickets each in seven and six matches respectively, and they are ranked third and fourth on the chart.
Jofra Archer, who took three wickets against LSG on Wednesday night, rose to the fifth position with 11 wickets. The most notable thing about Archer’s numbers is his economy rate of 7.96, the highest of any bowler in the top 16 of the current standings. His teammate Ravi Bishnoi also has 11 wickets but with a significantly higher economy of 9.26, which keeps him right behind Archer in the rankings.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar of RCB and Kagiso Rabada of Gujarat Titans complete the top eight with 10 wickets each in six matches.
Orange Cap Standings Largely Unchanged After LSG Game
The Orange Cap experienced little movement after a match, in which runs were difficult to get. Abhishek Sharma of SRH tops with 323 runs, closely followed by his teammate Heinrich Klaasen with 320. Shubman Gill of GT is ranked third with 265 runs.
The only significant shift was that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi overtook Virat Kohli to fourth position. Although Sooryavanshi scored only 8 runs against LSG, his overall 254 runs put him ahead of Kohli, who has 247 runs in his RCB appearances to date.
As the season is already in the second half, the Purple and Orange Cap races are already becoming highly competitive until the last group stage matches.
