Multan Sultans beat Hyderabad Kingsmen in the 8th match of PSL 2026 by 6 wickets on 1 April 2026, with 8 balls to spare in a 226-run target, at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
The spectacular victory was caused by the ruthless and undefeated century of Sahibzada Farhan, and the Sultans are at the head of the table of PSL 2026. Kingsmen, on the other hand, have not secured a single win in three games.

Kingsmen Set a Competitive 225, But It Wasn’t Enough
Hyderabad Kingsmen won the toss and chose to bat, and they had an explosive start through their opening batsmen. It began with Saim Ayub and Maaz Sadaqat on top, and Sadaqat was particularly not to be stopped. He took 50 out of just 19 balls and finished with 62 out of 26 balls, including 5 fours and 5 sixes, a strike rate of 238.
Marnus Labuschagne, the captain of the side, came in at three but lost on 8. Usman Khan took 12 balls to hit 25 and three sixes, only to be dismissed by Mohammad Wasim.
There had to be someone to take the back end, and Sharjeel Khan, who had not played a game of PSL since the 2023 season, stepped up to the occasion with an unbeaten 51 in 26 balls. He left the best to last, three sixes, two fours in a 30-run over, destroying Shehzad Gul.
The worst spectacle of the night was Gul’s bowling, who bowled four overs and conceded 60 runs without a single wicket.
Kingsmen made 225 out of their 20 overs, a score that would have been competitive on most of the nights. However, this was not most nights.
Farhan’s 106* Off 57 Balls Was the Difference
Farhan peeped with ball one in another gear. He struck his half-century in 25 balls only, and he did not suffer the required pace of running to creep up. His final knock of 57 deliveries, which took him to 106 not out, had 7 fours and 8 sixes; the sixes were the ones that ended the match in the 19th over. Second PSL 100 and ninth in T20 cricket is a phenomenal record for a 29-year-old player who is only getting better.
He received a life on 57, when Irfan Khan Niazi had dropped a regulation catch at long-on, which the Kingsmen will regret for a long time.
Farhan was awarded the Player of the Match award because of his 106 off 57 balls and the MVP award with 90.88 points. Sultan’s captain, Ashton Turner, said after the game that he had never seen a more incredible cricketing player in the world.
Smith and Farhan Demolished the Powerplay
Steven Smith came out swinging from the other end. The Australian struck 46 off just 20 balls, destroying Riley Meredith with a four and six on the first and second balls he had to deal with in the second over, and striking Saim Ayub with two huge sixes on the third.
Smith and Farhan followed it with a 104-run opening partnership, bringing 50 in 3.4 overs, and the century partnership in 7.1 overs. It was the Sultans who finished the power play at 83 for 0, a platform that would usually settle the game.
Smith was caught by Irfan Khan off Hassan Khan for 46, and Josh Philippe replaced him and was soon away with 9. Shan Masood created some middle-order dynamism after scoring 29 off 16 balls, but Saim Ayub got rid of him as well. But Farhan, still in the crease, Arafat Minhas hitting a 26 with the electric at the end of it all, Sultans crossed the line easily.
Heavy Dew and Kingsmen’s Fielding
The case of the Gaddafi Stadium did not help. It was a level, dry pitch, and good to bat on. But the Kingsmen bowlers had the most inconvenience in the second innings, getting the ball off, owing to heavy dew. That was the main reason behind Gul’s nightmare outing and why no Kingsmen bowler could hit their lengths. After the game, Labuschagne admitted that he was contemplating the first-bat decision.
Other than the dropped catch of Farhan at 57, Kingsmen also missed a stumping of Shan Masood in the 14th over. Masood then ransacked 16 runs off the three consecutive legal servings and was ultimately dismissed. The two events literally handed the game to the Sultans.

What’s Next
Having won both their matches to date, Multan Sultans are now leading the PSL 2026 table. The Sultans face Lahore Qalandars on April 3, a tough test against one of the tournament’s strongest sides. A win there would firmly cement their place at the top of the table.
For Hyderabad Kingsmen, their next assignment takes them to Karachi, where they face Peshawar Zalmi on April 8, a game they simply cannot afford to lose. Three defeats from three matches is a worrying start for the new franchise, and the bowling unit in particular needs serious attention before that game. The tournament is long, but the window to turn things around is getting smaller by the match.
