A woman from the state of Victoria is preparing to sue an Australian sportsbook after her accountant admitted to gambling away AU$820,000 (US$542,106) of her life savingsĀ
According to The Age, 53-year-old Kym Cavigan is suing Flutter subsidiary Sportsbet over a duty of care, claiming the sportsbook shouldnāt have credited the suspect Andrew Marshallās betting account with her illegally redirected savings.Ā Ā Ā
āItās not their money, and they should have known that the money they are profiting from was stolen from us,ā Cavigan, who wants compensation, stated.Ā
Marshall allegedly shifted Caviganās savings between two bank accounts before crediting his Sportsbet account. The state has charged Marshall with stealing funds amounting to nearly AU$4.2m ($2.7m).
